সুপার সাইক্লোন ’আম্পান’, শক্তিশালী রূপে আসছে
আম্পান। বাংলাদেশের উপকূলের দিকে এগিয়ে আসছে অতিপ্রবল ঘূর্ণিঝড় আম্পান। এটি ইতিমধ্যে ‘সুপার ঘূর্ণিঝড়ে’ পরিণত হয়েছে। চলতি শতাব্দীতে বঙ্গোপসাগরে তৈরি হওয়া এটিই প্রথম সুপার ঘূর্ণিঝড়। এর আগে ২০০৭ সালের প্রলয়ংকরী ঘূর্ণিঝড় সিডরও সুপার ঘূর্ণিঝড় ছিল না।
সাধারণত ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের বাতাসের
গতিবেগ ঘণ্টায় ২২০ কিলোমিটারের বেশি হলে তাকে সুপার সাইক্লোন হিসেবে ঘোষণা দেয় ভারতের
আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তর (আইএমডি)। বাংলাদেশের আবহাওয়া অধিদপ্তরও একে সুপার ঘূর্ণিঝড় হিসেবে
অভিহিত করেছে। সংস্থাটি গতকাল রাত নয়টা পর্যন্ত তথ্য বিশ্লেষণ করে বলছে, সুপার ঘূর্ণিঝড়টির
কেন্দ্রের ৯০ কিলোমিটারের মধ্যে বাতাসের গতিবেগ ঘণ্টায় ২২৫ থেকে ২৪৫ কিলোমিটার পর্যন্ত
হচ্ছে।
গতকাল বিকেল পাঁচটায় এই ঘূর্ণিঝড়
নিয়ে ফেসবুকে সরাসরি বক্তব্য দেন আইএমডির মহাপরিচালক মৃত্যুঞ্জয় মহাপাত্র। তিনি বলেন,
এই শতাব্দীতে বঙ্গোপসাগরে সৃষ্টি হওয়া ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের মধ্যে এটিই প্রথম সুপার ঘূর্ণিঝড়।
ভারত ও বাংলাদেশের ভূখণ্ডে আঘাতের সময় এর গতিবেগ কমতে পারে। তারপরও এর গতি ঘূর্ণিঝড়
সিডর ও আইলার চেয়ে বেশি হতে পারে। তিনি আরও বলেন, এই ঘূর্ণিঝড়ে বাংলাদেশের হাতিয়াসহ
পার্শ্ববর্তী দ্বীপগুলো উঁচু জলোচ্ছ্বাসে প্লাবিত হতে পারে। একই সঙ্গে মূল আঘাতটি
সুন্দরবনসংলগ্ন ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ও বাংলাদেশের খুলনা-সাতক্ষীরা এলাকায় হতে পারে।

According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone could cross the coast of Bangladesh from the last part of Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon or evening if the current speed-nature is maintained.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) declares a cyclone to
be a super cyclone if the wind speed of the cyclone is usually more than 220 km
per hour. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has also termed it as a
super cyclone. The agency said after analyzing the data last night, the wind
speed was between 225 and 245 kms within 90 kms of the center of the super
cyclone.
IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra spoke directly on
Facebook about the cyclone at 5 pm yesterday. He said it was the first super
cyclone to hit the Bay of Bengal in this century. In case of injury in the
territory of India and Bangladesh, its speed may decrease. Even then its speed
may be higher than that of Cyclone Sidr and Aila. He added that the cyclone
could inundate the surrounding islands, including Hatiya in Bangladesh. At the
same time, the main injury may be in the Sundarbans adjoining West Bengal of
India and Khulna-Satkhira area of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the cyclone was
located 1,020 km southwest of Chittagong seaport, 960 km southwest of Cox's
Bazar seaport, 920 km southwest of Mongla seaport and 910 km southwest of Payra
seaport at 9pm last night. . It may become more concentrated and move
northwards and then change direction and move north-northeast and cross the
coast of Bangladesh through the area between Khulna and Chittagong.
All fishing boats and trawlers stationed in the North Bay and the
deep sea have been asked to go to safe haven immediately and remain in safe
shelter until further notice.
